Sparky

A small Fox Terrier black and white, I was just a little guy three or four, I think Sparky was kept by my maternal grandparents and given to us because Sparky and I got on so well... Do I remember that correctly? I'm not sure, I was only three or four, but I do remember that I could pet Sparky nearly anytime that I wanted. But I was cautious and wouldn't want to offend this dog. Just something that I learned early on. My sister who was two or three, two years younger than me, she tended to want to pet this pup when he stopped and that was only to eat. Big mistake and she needed to learn, the dog would snap to try to teach her to keep back and not to threaten him while he was eating, I remember my Sister being told time and time again don't pet the dog while he was eating.

What does a two year old know? She needed to learn, so how head strong was this child? Well that would be revealed later in life.

Of course eventually Sparky would die...

A unique event would happen, the babysitter down the street would have a dog pass on, his name was Duke or something like that, a German shepherd. The babysitter bred German shepherds and Queenie would provide our next dog Dutchess...

Well on the day that Duke died or shortly there after I knew that the boys of the babysitter had not yet been finished mourning their dog and so I decided to see what power I had to test their emotions. I sat on the back porch step and started thinking about my dog Sparky, it didn't take me much to become emotional about my dog and so when the boys came over to talk with me I told them about my friend Sparky and then they started to share with me about their friend Duke, not long later we were all mourning our friends that we missed.
